COMPLETE AWARENESS
If you believe that everything that can be learned has been learned already then please do not go on reading this. Turn away and do something else. If you believe that learning is an ongoing process throughout one’s life and beyond then you might find the rest of these pages interesting, even if you should disagree with the content.
The teachings of the ancient and modern masters must be understood, however our learning process cannot stop there. Many of those people, and they were people like you and I, while inspired and prophetic, were naturally limited by the information then available to them. This will be true for those who follow us also and who will have available to them information in the future that we cannot now begin to imagine. Learning is an ongoing process and must done with the best with the information available to person attempting to learn. To stop at the teaching of the ancient masters and look no further is to do one’s self a great disservice.
The philosophy of the East and the West approach the experience of the “self” in different ways. In the East the Mystic’s and Masters seek to dwell on life to unravel the mysteries of the "self" and after life and see life as a way of achieving and learning that ultimate goal.
The philosophy of the West takes the approach that achievements and education are the best ways to live this life successfully. Eternity and the “beyond” is something that many of the “deep thinkers” of the West do not concern themselves with very much. Success in this present life is all that success is what is important to them and is the goal in life.
We, as feeble and imperfect beings, must be aware of the very unique gift that we have been given. We are multiple forms of beings in our bodies during our life. We have a finite “life” in the material Universe, yet we also have an infinite “consciousness” in the Cosmos. The two must be complimentary of one another and we must create an awareness of both within ourselves.
In the East one achieves “enlightenment” (a/k/a awakening or gnosis) when one becomes aware of nothing. Put another way, when one awakens to the fact that one’s self and everything outside of one’s self are truly nothing and everything is one, then one becomes “enlightened”. It is more than just a general understanding of that concept. It is the complete and absolute realization and acceptance of that truth.
In the West there is really no corresponding concept. Some Christians equate it to being "Reborn" into Christianity, but that is not really it either. Most Westerners believe that to achieve "success” in life one must thrive and prosper in the material world. The quest for materialism is the end game of the West. It is a very shallow view of life.
"Success" of any type may be modest but it must be earned. However, the best success is found in helping others while living an honest, truthful and good life.
Only then can one be “successful”, as opposed to the Eastern concept of “enlightened”. The diversity of the cultures and language of the East and West are beginning to disappear. Particularly, the barrier of language is disappearing in a very practical and convenient way. In the past the barrier of language made a free exchange of ideas very difficult because people simply could not understand one another. Today the internet has changed all of that. All one needs to do is to hit the “translate “button on a computer screen and almost any language can be instantly translated into any other language that can be easily understood by anyone. The problems created by the concept of the Tower-of Babel story are becoming an obsolete concept. Likewise, the free exchange of pictures and videos through social media has afforded the opportunity for anyone to instantly traverse long distances to observe how others in the world live and work. That is the true value of the internet. The technology will undoubtedly advance in the future.
One can daily observe what happens to any people almost anywhere in the world and the people of formally vastly different languages and cultures can instantly exchange and share ideas and ways of living. As we do, we find that we are much more all alike than different. As that process continues it will move to the point to where people will realize that the old misconceptions and suspicions between what was formally thought to be groups of very different people is not at all the reality of our Earth. There are good and bad people in every society. That can be used to open the minds of the people of the Earth to see that we all have similar goals and hopes for ourselves and our families.
All of my life, or for at least the last 60 years, I have done what was expected of me by others. I did that quite "successfully" in the eyes of others for a long, long time. Now I have reached the point in my life that I want to do something that I expect of myself. I want to fulfill my definition of "success" in the Western sense, but not monetarily or through fame or through a personal inner "awakening" of something. I would like to do it in such a way that the Earth is left a better place for my having been here. Therefore , the "success" that I seek is not personal "success" but "success" of an idea or thought that makes the Universe, and our place in it, a little easier to understand.
I will not become a renunciate and shave my head, grow a beard, give away all my possessions and roam the countryside in a robe and sandals living off of the charity of others. Although, that has been a very successful formula for others in the past, it is simply not the way for me now. I am the neatly groomed guy in the coat and tie that looks like any other neatly groomed western guy in a coat and tie. There is nothing particularly remarkable or special about me. I am just an ordinary and simple person. The only thing that makes me in anyway slightly unique is that I have taken the time to think deeply about myself and the purpose that I serve and ask why I am here and what is it all about . I have learned to question everything. It is something that almost anyone can do and many have done in the past.
My small contribution may be the ability to organize these concepts into simple language that anyone can understand without having to keep a dictionary in one hand and a thesaurus in the other. I know how to use big complex words and language, but to me the trick is to distill complex concepts, thoughts and ideas into simple, easily understood everyday language.
In the East one reaches “enlightenment” when one grasps the awareness of nothing. To put it in another way one reaches enlightenment when one has an epiphany of sorts and truly knows that one’s self and everything outside of one’s self is truly nothing and therefore everything is truly one. That, admittedly stated in an overly simplistic way, is somewhat of what is taught and believed by the ancient and modern masters and mystics of the East. However, to me, that is being only partially aware because it only addresses one side of our being.
My belief is that we are all finite beings in life and infinite beings in our
consciousness .That the true and complete way to COMPLETE AWARENESS is to fully understand and comprehend the concept of the “Awareness of Nothing” which can be simply stated thus: “Everything is nothing, but nothing is everything therefore everything is one”.
In our finite material life we must be aware that we also have an infinite consciousness .If we do that then we can accept the fact that the ultimate purpose of life is not to possess the most money or popularity or fame. We came into life with nothing and we will leave life that same way. The process of birth, life, death and re-birth is a continuing natural process.
Conversely, we must strive to make the most of the precious gift of life that we have been given and live that life to the fullest while at all times seeking to leave this reality of the material world a better place than we found it when we were born. We must respect and help others. We must be tolerant of all people, religions, races, genders and customs. We must all learn to live together on this Earth for the good of the whole. We must do no harm or damage while we are here. It does not matter what path is taken, it is the reality of ultimate truth that is the objective.
Someday we will all return to the reality of pure consciousness. We may do that many, many times. We must therefore live this life in a way that is consistent with the beings that we are, not what we deceive ourselves into believing us to be.
We are multi-form beings. Remember: “Everything is nothing, but nothing is everything therefore everything is one”; that is the true Ying-Yang of existence. That is the true meaning of “The Awareness of Nothing”.
There is much more left for us all to learn. I hope that this has at least made you think for yourself.
